New International Project Combines Social Work and Security Expertise to Tackle Crisis Management Challenges
CRISING - New Solutions in International Social Work - Promoting Inclusive Crisis Management project is coordinated by Laurea University of Applied Sciences.
Laurea University of Applied Sciences has launched an innovative project aimed at addressing the critical need for enhanced training and career opportunities in international social work within crisis management operations. This ambitious initiative brings together experts from social work, safety, and security to develop new methods and tools for equipping Europe to better face future crises.
The "CRISING - New Solutions in International Social Work - Promoting Inclusive Crisis Management" project focuses on mapping the role and competences of social workers in crisis management, identifying best practices through multiprofessional workshops, and piloting a groundbreaking online course (MOOC) on international social work in crisis settings. Training materials, videos, and research articles will also be developed to support continuous learning.
– Crises like natural disasters, armed conflicts, and humanitarian emergencies demand strong collaboration between social workers and security professionals. This project is a significant step toward bridging the gaps in education and training, ensuring that future professionals are prepared for complex, international challenges, says the project coordinator at Laurea.
The initiative aims to create a robust network of higher education institutions, aid organizations, and crisis management professionals. Dissemination activities, including seminars, webinars, and social media campaigns, will further amplify the project’s impact.
The project underscores the importance of building cultural competence, understanding international treaties, and promoting bottom-up approaches that empower communities affected by crises. By fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration, this project positions Europe as a leader in preparing professionals to respond effectively to global challenges.
The project brings together a consortium of six partners from across Europe:
- Laurea University of Applied Sciences (FI) (Coordinator)
