Online studies, blended learning or daytime studies? Choose your way to study

Laurea's different ways of studying suit different students and different life situations.

Blended learning, daytime studies or studying entirely online? There are three different ways to study at Laurea, each with its own strengths. They are suitable for different students and different life situations, so it's a good idea to find out more about the different modes of study before you apply. This will help you find the best one for you.

All forms of study require a commitment from the student. Studying at the university of applied sciences requires that you have enough time to study, that you work well in a team, and that you are self-directed and able to schedule your studies to fit in with your own life. All forms of study in Laurea's bachelor's degree programmes are equally broad and include the same amount of practical training, regardless of the mode of study.

The next application period for Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes at Laurea is 8–22 January. Degree programmes are available online, in blended learning and daytime studies.

The freedom and responsibility of online studies

For several years now, Laurea has been offering several different Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes online. Studying entirely online may not be suitable for every student, but at its best it offers unique flexibility.

You can even study online from abroad. Many students would not be able to participate in daytime or blended learning due to work, family, hobbies or other life circumstances.

Online studies are best suited to the self-initiated, self-directed student. You need to take care of your own progress and make sure you have enough time in your daily life to study.

Even though studying online is self-directed, it is not just a solitary effort. An important part of studying online are online meetings, discussions and group work at a distance.

Diverse learning in blended learning

Blended learning combines collaborative face-to-face learning on campus with flexible, independent learning online. Depending on the degree programme, lectures are held on certain days or in the evenings. However, it is important to note that there is also on-campus face-to-face teaching and attendance-based meetings.

Blended learning gives students some control over their study schedules, which makes it easier for them to fit their studies into their everyday lives. This was of studying is therefore well suited to students who want to study while working, but it is also an opportunity to combine hobbies or family life with studies.

Many students who are already in work have a strong desire and motivation to complete their studies at a faster pace. Even though the workload is the same for students in blended learning and daytime studies, many students have managed to shorten their study time by completing their studies at a faster pace. It is important to note, however, that blended learning also include workshops or simulation exercises, for example, which take place at specific times.

Daytime learning is student life at its best

When considering how to study, it is important to think about what is best for you and what you want to get most out of your studies. For many students, studying face-to-face with others on campus is the best way to learn, and in this case, traditional daytime study is the most appropriate way to study.

In daytime studies, the majority of learning takes place through face-to-face teaching and supervision, but of course there is also independent study and online learning. As a rule, day studies require students to be present during the week.

Studying face-to-face on campus also opens up the most comprehensive aspects of student life, with the whole student community, activities and student activities, in addition to the studies.
