Applicants must have a suitable degree completed at a university or a UAS and at least two years of relevant work experience acquired after graduation. In addition, applicants must have studied at least 30 ECTS law.
Work experience must be related to the degree you are applying for or related to the degree you have graduated from.
If you want to develop your skills in technology law, this programme is for you. You will learn along with emerging regulations, resilience skills, ethics as well as CSR and ESG considerations. You will not only be well-versed in the law but also equipped to navigate the ethical and social responsibilities that come with the integration of technology into organisations' practices. As a technology law student, you must be very independent and able to develop and research. Therefore, you are expected to have an active and curious attitude as well as readiness to schedule your studies and commit yourself to completing them.
Core competence 30 ECTS
The mandatory core competencies (30 ECTS) will all be available completely online, provided by Laurea teachers and will be in English. The courses cover international technology contract law and negotiation skills, legal issues related to the commercialization of high technology, intellectual property rights and their strategic role in technology companies and other innovative organizations, privacy, cyber resilience, data ownership, and their growing significance as organizational assets within the framework of a fair data economy, legal and ethical considerations in the utilization of artificial intelligence, consumer, and marketing law, especially in digital consumer marketing, and utilization and development of legal tech tools.

International Technology Contract Law and Negotiation Skills (5ECTS)
This course provides in-depth knowledge of international technology contract law and essential negotiation skills.

Intellectual Property Rights and IPR Strategy (5 ECTS)
Delving into the world of intellectual property rights and their strategic significance in technology companies and other innovative organizations.

Privacy, Cyber Resilience and Data Ownership (5 ECTS)
This course explores the importance of privacy, cyber resilience, data as an asset, data ownership, and data’s strategic role in organizations.

Legal and Ethical Issues in Harnessing Artificial Intelligence (5 ECTS)
Examining the legal and ethical challenges surrounding the utilization of artificial intelligence.

Consumer Law & Marketing Law (5 ECTS)
This course focuses on marketing law, with a particular emphasis on digital consumer marketing.

Legal Tech (5 ECTS)
After completion of the course the students will be able to analyse the impact of technology on legal practices and services; and develop new and innovative legal services by leveraging technology.
Complementary competence 30 ECTS
You can deepen and extend your knowledge through complementary competencies. The scope of the studies is 30 ECTS and they support your individual study paths and competence. The amount of online master level courses in English provided by both Laurea and other universities of applied sciences is continuously increasing.
You can choose your complementary courses from this common offering and include eg. Open Access offering in your elective studies. You can also register for elective on campus courses and, language skills permitting, available in Finnish. It is recommended to start working on your thesis (30 credits) early on.

Studying in the Technology Law programme
This is an online programme with English as the teaching language. Therefore, you may also enrol in the degree programme if you are living abroad.
The degree takes on average 1,5–2,5 years to complete. In line with the international ECTS standard, one credit corresponds to 26,7 hours of work for an average student.
The online learning environments support your learning. The study method varies depending on the course. Part of the degree programme involves fully independent study, such as essay writing or working on structured online exercises under the teacher’s guidance, but online meetings and group assignments are also included.
Tentative timetable
The programme will start in early September 2025. The timetable for the mandatory courses will be specified by the beginning of the semester.

Tuition fees and scholarships
Non-EU/EEA area students in degree programmes taught in English are charged tuition fees.
Tuition fee: €11 000/ academic year for non EU/EEA students.

Application requirements
Applicants to Master's programmes must have a previous Bachelor's or Master's degree completed at a university or a university of applied sciences and at least 24 months of subsequent work experience in the field being applied to or the field of the previous higher education degree.
In addition, at least 30 ECTS studies in law are required for admission to the Technology Law Programme.
