Laurea’s hos­pi­tal­ity management students won RESTO 2025 com­pe­ti­tion

The National RESTO Competition for Hospitality Management students held in Lahti featured eight teams from universities of applied sciences. The annual competition aims to highlight students' skills, promote hospitality education, support collaboration with the working life, and create opportunities for expanding networks.

Laurea's team, studying in Leppävaara, Espoo, prepared for the competition intensively starting from the fall of 2024. The task in the competition was to create a marketing plan for a side event of the Salpausselkä Games and to develop a new themed product package for a Lahti-based accommodation provider. In the competition, the plan was presented to the jury, which focused on aspects such as the product's experiential quality and attractiveness. The winning team consisted of Sanna Ilves, Roope Kuusisto, Kiia Savumaa, and Vilma Vuorinen. The coaching team included Laurea lecturers Henry Lybäck, Kaija Meriläinen, Marjaana Salomaa, and Miia Vakkuri. 

-We are very proud of our students, who worked consistently throughout the competition. Their expertise and experience were evident in the competition performances, said lecturer Miia Vakkuri. 

According to Teemu Sirainen, the Director of Education at Laurea, the competition is of great importance for the recognition of hospitality education and the motivation of students. 

-Events like this increase the recognition and raise awareness of the field. This is a significant acknowledgment not only for our entire university of applied sciences but also for the students themselves. 

Laurea University of Applied Sciences offers hospitality management education at both the bachelor's and master's levels. The program can be applied for in the joint application period from March 11 to March 25, 2025.
