Autumn joint application period: an increase in the number of applicants compared to a year ago

Laurea's Finnish-language degree programmes received over 18,000 applications, which is 1,713 more than last autumn.

The application period for higher education institutions closed today, Thursday 14 September. Laurea's Finnish-language degree programmes received over 18,000 applications, which is 1,713 more than last autumn.

4,626 applicants had chosen Laurea as their first choice. The total number of study places in Finnish-language programmes was 1,075, which means that for every place offered at Laurea, there were on average 4,3 priority applicants.

The most popular was the Degree Programme in Correctional Services

Laurea is the only university of applied sciences in Finland to offer a Bachelor's Degree in Correctional Services. In fact, the Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Correctional Services was the most attractive of Laurea's Finnish-language Degree Programme with 274 priority applicants.

In this autumn's application period, Laurea also added a Master's Degree Programme in Managing and Developing Work in Correctional Services. The programme, which is entirely online, attracted 82 priority applicants.

Among the other Bachelor's Degree Programmes, the most popular at Laurea were the Degree Programme in Business Information Technology, Cyber Security and Safety, Security and Risk Management.

Interest in work-based learning

Thanks to the research projects and the university's partnerships, students already have many work and research projects on their CVs during their studies. President, CEO Jouni Koski believes that this contributes to the development of the university's attractiveness and is pleased about the growing interest in Laurea's programmes among applicants.

- The need for a skilled and job-oriented workforce in every sector is important. This is supported by our unique pedagogical learning model, Learning by Developing, where students learn through real-life work assignments and are thus better prepared to take on the challenges of the world of work. Our numerous research projects and key partner network will continue to be our strength, Koski concludes.

The Hospitality Management and Service Design Programme included in the autumn application period

In addition to the Finnish-language courses, the Degree Programme in Hospitality Management and Service Design in English was included in the autumn application period for the first time. This degree programme attracted 7,200 applicants. At Laurea, this is being considered as a separate subject, as the number of applications that meet the criteria is ultimately much lower than the number of applicants.

The rest of Laurea's English-language programmes will be included in the application period in January, which will run from 3 to 17 January 2024. Then Laurea will offer seven English-language Bachelor's Degree and three Master's Degree Programmes.
