Laurea is committed to the principles of open science

Laurea has signed the national declaration on open science and research.

The Finnish research community has jointly revised the Declaration on Open Science and Research for 2025–2030. In the new declaration, the strategic goals have been translated into active commitments that call on the entire research community to promote the opening up of research through their actions. The new principles guiding the promotion of openness provide a jointly agreed direction for the future.

Laurea University of Applied Sciences is one of the organizations that has signed the Declaration on Open Science and Research, and is thus committed to strengthening scientific freedom, transparency, and collaboration.

Responsible research, development, innovation (RDI) and open learning belong to Laurea's guiding principles. The Laurea Roadmap for Open RDI and Education (subsequently: Laurea Roadmap for Openness) defines Laurea's principles and objectives regarding openness.

The achievement of open science and research goals is reviewed every two years. The latest review was conducted in 2024, and Laurea achieved an excellent rating.

Laurea achieved a level 5 rating in all four areas. The areas are Organizational Culture, Publications, Materials and Infrastructure, and Openness in Learning. According to the results, universities of applied sciences achieved an average level of 4/5. Eleven universities of applied sciences, including Laurea, achieved the highest level of 5.
