International Trainees
Exchange programmes, which include placements, are only for students from Laurea’s international partner institutions. Students who wish to go on placements in companies or other organisations in the Greater Helsinki Region, or work as international trainees at Laurea’s research and development environments (labs), should first turn to the international office at their home institution in order to be selected into an exchange programme before filling in the application to Laurea.
A check-list for international trainees
Before filling in Laurea's application form for incoming exchange students/interns you need to be nominated to student exchange / placement by your home institution. A person responsible for international activities at your home institution needs to send the nomination information to the international coordinator of the Laurea unit where you will do your placement at.
After we have received your nomination information we will send you an email containing the instructions on how to fill in our electronic application form (this may take a few days). The email will come from the address solemove(at)solenovo.fi and the title will be "Instructions for filling in your Exchange Application to Laurea".
Fill in the online application form.
If possible, try to follow these deadlines: for placements in autumn term and academic year the deadline is May 15th. Deadline for placements in the spring term is October 30th.
NB! Please notice that students wishing to do an internship in nursing at Laurea should allways apply already in May for the whole academic year.
Complete the required documents related to your placement.
If you are a Social Services or Health Care student and will go on a placement in Finland, fill in a Learning Agreement. After your Learning Agreement has been approved and signed at your home institution, send it to your international coordinator at Laurea. It is recommended that you keep a copy of the Learning Agreement for yourself.
if you are a student from another study field (e.g. Business or Hospitality Management, Business Information Technology) and go on a placement within the Erasmus programme, fill in the Erasmus Placement Agreement and Erasmus Training Agreement and Quality Confirmation documents together with your international coordinator at your home institution.
if you are coming to work at Laurea on research and development projects (e.g. at Leppävaara’s SIDLabs), you will need (if not yet done so) to enter your CV and other information into a database / provide your CV by e-mail. The Project Coordinator of the Laurea research & development environment you are going to work at will provide you with detailed information on your project.
Apply for accommodation and read about living in the greater Helsinki region in the Living and accommodation section. Laurea does not have its own student dormitories. Furnished student accommodation for exchange students (including trainees following the study semesters) is available with HOAS, but needs to be applied for. Each student is responsible for applying for his/her accommodation independently. NB! HOAS has only a limited number of apartments so fill in the application as soon as you can.
Read the information about student tutors, orientation and arrival days. If you are able to arrive on the arrival days, a pick-up service by the student union is arranged for you. You are also welcome to attend all the orientation activities.
Prepare for the placement abroad well. Read about Finnish culture and customs and get to know your tutors and future exchange student /international trainee colleagues online at Laurea's Welcome to Finland workspace.
