Instructions for Applying
Students of the Laurea Bachelor's degree programmes conducted in English are selected through the Finnish joint national application system. The online application is submitted at www.admissions.fi. Prospective students can apply to four different degree programmes at one or several Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS) in Finland using one application form.
The application form is submitted online and received and processed by the Admissions office of the applicant's first choice UAS. The online application form is open during January 9th - February 14th 2012. Please note that each applicant may fill in the application form ONCE only. Fill in all your contact information into your application form with great care so that the admissions office can contact you when necessary.
Applicant Code
Once you have submitted your application form at www.admissions.fi you will receive your personal applicant code. Please write your applicant code down onto all documents sent to the Admissions Office to enable smoother service. It is highly recommended you also take a print out of your application form for reference.
Upon submission of your online application form, you will also receive an automatic message to your e-mail address confirming your application has been received.
Certificates and language skills requirement
Applicants who are applying with a completed foreign upper secondary school certificate must provide a photocopy of the final upper secondary school certificate to the Admissions office of his/her first choice by the deadline 24th February 2012 16:15. Please write your applicant code on all documents sent to the Admissions Office. If you are an EU/EEA national and graduating from upper secondary school in spring 2012, you are eligible to apply.
Non-EU nationals who are applying with a foreign upper secondary must also provide an approved language certificate by 24th February 2012. Applicants must ensure all required documents for the application arrive on time. Certificates arriving after the deadline are not considered.
Consider your options of preference carefully
In your application form always choose your most preferred degree programme as your first option, and then choose your second to fourth options when applicable.The order of preference in the application is binding and cannot be changed after the application period closes 14th February 16:15.
All applicants must participate and pass in the degree programe entrance exams (in April -May) to be considered for admission. Some UAS degree programmes are in entrance exam co-operation together within the same fields of studies, allowing you to apply to up to four programmes with one entrance exam result.
After the entrance exams, you will be given admission to the highest preference where your admission points are sufficient. If your admission points are not sufficient for admission to the programme of your first preference, your points will be checked for your second preference, then third and finally fourth preference. An applicant can be accepted to one option only. If you are given admission to a higher preference, you cannot be selected for admission to the lower preferences. Therefore consider your order of preference carefully before filling in the application form. Admission letters are sent by post in June-July.
Changes to application form
The applicant may change the order of preferences in the application form but this must be done in writing/by e-mail before the application period closes 14th February 2012 16:15 Finnish time. Once the application period has closed, the order of preference may no longer be changed. Changes in address or other relevant personal details can be made outside the application period.
If you have any changes to make to your application, contact your 1st choice Admissions Office and mention your applicant number. All changes to the application form must be sent in writing/e-mail to the admissions office of the university of applied sciences of the applicant's first preference.
Visas and Residence Permits
Only eligible applicants will be invited for the entrance exams. Some of the entrance exams are arranged in Finland only. Prior to the trip to take the entrance examination in Finland, the applicant must check if he/she needs a visa. Please note that processing of immigration documents (visa/residence permit application) requires several weeks. Students who have been selected for admission must apply for the residence permit from the local Finnish diplomatic mission immediately after receiving the admission letter in order to avoid delay in beginning studies. Please note the Admissions Office does not provide assistance in the Visa/Residence permit application.
